Love Rocky Goes to the Beach

I purchased a shirt for myself and Gavin pre-Christmas from Love Rocky, a friend I’ve made online that makes awesome screen printed clothes. Her Etsy store is here and her facebook page is here.

Gavin adores his shirt. It is soft, stretchy and is just the right attitude for my feisty little guy. He had such a blast playing on our beach that I’m not sure he realized that I was photographing him to send the photos back to my friend. Thankfully she loves the shots as much as I do and has shared them on her facebook page and across social media platforms.

We ended up spending 2 hours just hanging out. I shot photos (which I love) and Gavin dug in the sand, ran in circles and chased birds (which he loves). Right before we left, we caught the sunset. A perfect ending to a fantastic afternoon.

House concert with Marc Gunn

20140330-141041.jpg
Last night I attended a house concert at my friends April & John’s house to see Marc Gunn play. It was awesome. I first saw Marc play when he was part of the Brobdingnagian Bards at DragonCon many years ago.

Marc’s music is described as “Celtic music, the traditional and the twisted. Marc Gunn combines his love of traditional Irish drinking songs with fun, twisted lyrics. It’s like a satirical jam session between The Clancy Brothers and Weird Al Yankovic. Enjoy Celtic-style songs about hobbits, cats, kilts, Firefly, Star Wars, Star Trek, plus, Gunn’s rhythmic acoustic renditions of traditional Scottish and Irish songs.”

Marc introduced new songs I haven’t heard that were delightful along classics that I’ve always enjoyed hearing him play, like the Ballad of Jayne.

Marc also performed an acapella summary of Hamlet. I caught the second half.

Marc has also started podcasts and newsletters supporting the Celtic community. My favorite part on Marc’s network to follow is his Instagram account to see photos of his beautiful wife Gwen and daughter Kenzie. It is awesome to keep up with his lovely family and see how Kenzie is growing up!

I’ll leave you with one more video from last night. Don’t go Drinking with Hobbits! 🙂

What are your favorite Celtic songs?

Top 5 products I’ve loved in 2013.

Throughout 2013 I’ve tried many, many new products. Some I’ve loved and some left the house rather swiftly. After one of my best friends got 3 items on her Christmas list straight from my new acquisitions, I decided it was worth it to share.

So here in no particular order are my top finds for 2013. (This doesn’t mean that they are new in 2013, just new to me!)

1. Cotz Face.

I got a tube of this from Brandcation 2013 and I have used every last drop of it. I even saved the tube until I could order more. It goes on matte, doesn’t get shiny and acts like a foundation and sunscreen all in one. It has a mineral sunscreen and an ingredients that doesn’t require a masters degree in chemistry to understand.

2. FitBit Flex.

Working out is sometimes fun. It’s more fun to stalk yourself and see how much ground you really covered at Disney (26k steps!) or how much sleep you really got last night (4 hrs 56min).

3. Spiral Slicer.

Zucchini is suddenly interesting. My husband and I are no longer discussing the “pasta, again?” issue that will sometimes crop up. And I’ve only cut myself on it once. It’s a fun little kitchen gadget that turns all your favorite veggies into pasta like noodles. Yay Paleo! Just add bacon.

4. O Key Ring by Oventure.

OkeyRing

I got one in pink from Brandcation. I wasn’t sure if it would like it, but instead fell in LOVE with it. Those suckers are a little pricy, but they are made of leather and stand up to wear and tear. I am brutally hard on my stuff. The band has stretched out a little, but it’s leather and that is what leather does. It fits around my arm and makes losing my keys incredibly difficult.

5. 3D Lashes by Younique.

Holy Crap, this stuff is awesome. It’s worth the $29 price tag and I paid full price for it. Nicole is a fellow blogger and she signed up to be a consultant for Younique, a party plan makeup biz. They carry mineral makeup, face stuff and THIS.

Basically, you throw on your typical mascara and then grab your lashes kit. Add the transplanting gel, layer on the fibers and POW! Instant glamour. Trisha with MomDot tried them here.  Lynsey with Party Plan Divas tried them here.

Disclaimer – I am trying out Amazon affiliate links for the first time. If it works, yay! I get some cash to help pay for the blog. If it doesn’t, no worries. I still recommend the products. 🙂

23 and me versus Forty-six & 2.

This came in the mail yesterday. Apparently it is now all the rage to get your genes tested to find out what illnesses you need to watch out for. I admit I am curious about it. They stated in the letter that two years ago testing was $499 and last year it dropped to $299. Now it is the low low price of $99. At this rate, I can wait two years and pay only $25.

When I first opened this letter, this video below started playing in my head. It’s been on constant rotation ever since. The two are related…. Sort of.

forty six and 2

Would you get genetic testing? Why?
